Down the peaks of snowy hill

Smooth meandering pebbles fill

The rustle of babbling watery roar

Flowed the stream white and pure

.

And moss like carpets across spread

Herbal saplings along it bred

Carrying the powers to heal and cure

Flowed the stream white and pure.

(Footnotes: The reminiscence of this scenery comes from a trip to the foothills of the Himalayas, which my elder brother took me to. The clear stream that emerged from the melting glaciers upstream, came flowing at the foothills with all its purity still intact. My brother informed me that the water of the stream had medicinal values too as it had several herbal plants along its way. We filled our water bottles from that stream. It surely was pure and cold and refreshing! )

Little boy’s birthday it is, at his home

There came his friends little ones

With gifts in hands simple gifts packed with love their friends

Stars, ribbons, balloons decorated the room, dangling from above

Little gentlemen, mothers combed their hair in proper shapes

Little ladies, mothers tied their hair in ponytails sideways

The group of children immaculately dressed looking dashing, gorgeous

Little ones though playful but in such attires becoming conscious

Of not getting stain on fabric, but remain jubilant, playful

The birthday boy is glad, happy to see

His friends all looking so nice!

His mother brings the cake now,

Let the celebrations begin!

(PostScript: I write this scene recollecting my elder brother’s birthday, several years ago. That day, his friends had arrived in a very formal way. In young, going to other’s house for any occasion, the mothers would dress up the child to make him o’ her look like gentle men and ladies. And since I had always seen his friends in shabby outlooks, that day, seeing them so immaculately carrying themselves, did leave a lasting memory in my mind. Additionally, I would like to mention that I have been inspired by Keith Garrett for attempting a poetry in this style. He does this style really well! )

Ok, let me tell you the story. This was a day during my high school, when early in the morning while flipping through ‘The Winged Word‘, a classic book of poetry (also my favorite), I came across a poem by Robert Burns, titled ‘A Red Red Rose‘. I had liked it immensely and read it a number of times to get a better feel and also to capture the style of it.

Later when I was at school, a friend of mine asked me if I could help him write something wonderful which he wanted to put in a letter for his gf. It was some important occasion for their relationship. With the memory of my morning poetry, I at once began to speak the lines and surprised my friend (and also myself) by reciting the whole of it, except the last stanza which didn’t come immediately to my mind.

My friend was so glad; jubilant that I had got him a solution so quickly, began to insist excitedly- “Please help me write it down on paper! Please,Please,Please! ” Haha! With this pleasant reminiscence, I would like to share with you that lovely poem by Robert Burns(which was written in 1794), which I recalled as I noticed the next prompt for Word High July-  Kundiman, love song!

A Red Red Rose

by Robert Burns

O my Luve is like a red, red rose
   That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve is like the melody
   That’s sweetly played in tune.
So fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
   So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.
Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
   And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.
And fare thee weel, my only luve!
   And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my luve,
Though it were ten thousand mile.

Safekeepers of Memories

social-media-icons-painting-computer-internet-design-2560x1440-1

Ago some decades back

Memorable moments in sacks

Pictures polaroid print

Manuscripts brown tint

Locked in albums, closet

No great gandfathers forget

Keys to the safe,passed

Generations downward

In elapsed era eventual

We built homes virtual

All memories in pixels hung

On walls Facebook, clung

And bits bytes MBs GBs

Of memories entrusted in PDs HDs

And the manuscripts now express

Etched vividy on WordPress

With a locked safe register

Of letters numbers special characters

Memories these will safely stay

To cherish during virtual walkway

Our rich history for futures revealed

By safekeepers, unconcealed

Blue

One fine day in summer June

Singing loud and cheery tune

Friends exploring wilderness four

Breaking the silence with their roars

Besides the river the jungle spread

Carefully though on brink we tread

Excited thrilled and spirits high

We kept trekking the river side

Wondering what fun more awaited

When one friend at once located

A massive cliff towards which we headed

Nothing that day we least had dreaded

But upon reaching the spot

We admitted that we could not

Find a way to climb that steep

Cliff so we must now try to leap

The far side of the river and go

Exploring more of jungle so

One by one we each descended

Down the land where sea had bended

Let’s get down to the river now,

And holding hands together somehow,

Cross this river sparkling blue

Where crows above noisily flew

Then my first friend slowly got down

“It’s not deep” we heard his sound

As I put my foot in there

The ground beneath me ebbed somewhere

And in a flash I splashed in deep

Carried away by a powerful sweep

Of the currents of angry river

Whole frame of mine then tossed with quiver.

Blue and Blue was all I saw

Tasted water harsh and raw

I knew not how to swim back then

I gasped for air panic stricken

The river played me like a toy

As mad bull rides a poor cowboy

Then by miracle something caught

My legs as I pathetically fought

Towards the shore was I then thrown

And quick for life I clasped a stone

I coughed the water then my mind

Saw my friend who had been kind

To jump at once and swim like fish

Before I drowned like a wrecked ship.

Breeze_in_the_barley

The Tranquil Breeze

The tranquil breeze

From far off land

Dancing leaf with it the sand

Travelling overseas

.

Then garden flowers

To and fro

Nodding to its merry flow

Brightened after showers

.

A movement gentle

It infuse

Clothes drying in recluse

With patterns ornamental

.

Then softly on my face

It sweeps

And round about ardently leaps

Proffering an embrace

.

And when the crease

Of worry shows

Soon away along it goes

With the tranquil breeze

Unbound Store of Memories

The Nature’s present moment

Is the existing territory

Even the second just passed

Is now a file in memory

.

The Nature, all her works

Since eons in the past

Preserved data in the brains

We are Nature’s database so vast

.

Ever since the creation of life

Love hatred hopes and vice

Every observation we ever made

Gathering experiences far and wide

.

A video recorder to save the motion

We keep a camera to click

Moments of our lives that matter

In computers and hard disks

.

A memory device our brain

With the mysterious sub-conscious mind

We are Nature’s hard disks where

Everything about everything (since eternity) she can find

.

-r prab

(This may sound an eerie composition. But I think our capability to remember things , is miraculous and mysterious. It is only because we have a memory, we can perceive the flow of time, otherwise it will all be just a ‘Now’ , no ‘Past’.

When I was studying electronics in college I realized how complex it is to store bits of data in electronics circuit. To comprehend what happens in our minds, so much more powerful and dynamic, with a mysterious ‘sub conscious’ part always made me wonder. We don’t even know how much we know. The dreams and strange recollections always mystify us. We may never know the full truth. I wonder that if we cannot control the memory of our own subconscious mind, who does? May be Nature will reveal to us someday.)
